Welcome to our first Company Profile! We wanted to kick things off with O’Douds All Natural, based in Houston, TX, because we’re all about supporting local makers. We recently started carrying this line and were blown by the attention to ingredients, quirky vintage packaging, and passion for crafting a quality range of products.
But that’s enough talk from our end. Keep reading to learn about the company from founder Clayton Douds himself.
Where are you located?
O’Douds All Natural is currently located in Houston, TX. However, we will be moving to another (as of yet undetermined) location in August.
When and why did you start this business?
We started in February 2014 just as a hobby. I decided to start brewing my own pomade because I wasn’t happy with any of the natural pomades out there (there weren’t many options). I started selling to some people I knew online, and then it just kept growing.
How did you come up with the name of the company?
It is the original form of my last name. When my family came to America they removed the “O” from “O’Douds.”
Why did you decide to only use natural ingredients?
Well, I try to only use natural products in my life anyways, so I never really even considered it – I just knew my products had to be natural. There are a lot of really bad things in pretty much everything nowadays. When you start to look into manufacturing procedures, it is crazy what you will find.
What inspires you?
Oh wow, a lot of things inspire me. I grew up listening to music and being in bands, so music is sort of where I get most of my inspiration. Usually I am just trying to learn how to be a better friend and better person in general.
What is your biggest accomplishment as a business?
Going full time and hiring one of my best friends.
What is one O’Douds product every man should own and why?
Well it seems like I should say pomade, but not every guy uses pomade. So I would probably have to say our soap. Switching from standard body wash to an all-natural bar soap is an awesome experience, and it is a great way to wake up each morning.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Work hard and do things your own way. There are a lot of people who have advice about how you should run your company, but I think letting your company just act as an extension of yourself is the most honest thing to do.
What do you have coming from O’Douds in the future?
Right now we are working on perfecting everything we have and growing a bit. We just released a lot of new products, and we are taking feedback and working on fine tuning those a bit before we launch anything new.
