At the young age of 16, model Lucky Blue Smith has already walked the runways for some of the biggest fashion houses out there, including Tom Ford, Fendi, and Jeremy Scott. It’s easy to see why – with piercing blue eyes and platinum blond hair, Smith stands out even in the already good-looking model crowd. Originally from Utah, Smith and his family – including sisters and fellow models Pyper America, Daisy Clementine, and Starlie – moved to Hollywood a few years back and were all immediately signed to modeling contracts. Yup, good looks run in the family.

Smith dyed his hair platinum at the insistence of his agent, who thought he looked too ‘Sweet California Boy’ and wanted something edgier. After the dye job, Smith began booking top assignments and has turned into fashion’s It Boy with a legion of female fans that rivals that of One Direction.

Luckily, Smith’s platinum streak is achievable by us regular dudes – and really, what better time to go surfer blonde than summer?

still shocked, thank you Tom Ford / @nextmodels A photo posted by Lucky Blue (@luckybsmith) on

How to Care for Platinum Blonde Hair

We’ll leave the actual bleaching of your hair to the experts, as the process is different for each person depending on hair color. But in case you’re considering going blonde blonde, we can give you a few tips about the care and styling.

Care

Your platinum hair will yellow naturally over time, and will do so more quickly if you live in a city with pollution. To keep your blonde hair in tip top condition, wash with a shampoo that neutralizes yellow tones, like Clairol Shimmer Lights or Floid Shampoo for Grey Hair. Because the bleach does damage and dehydrate your hair, also focus efforts on restoring moisture. Wash with a hydrating shampoo and finish with an emollient conditioner that restores natural oils. Douse your hair at least once a week with a deep conditioner to prevent brittle, straw-like strands.

And for everyday shine, finish your styling with a high-gloss top coat that’ll seal in moisture.

Styling

Lucky Blue Smith’s signature platinum blond look is risky, but thankfully platinum blonde works on just about all skin tones. According to a recent GQ interview with New York hair colorist Alexis Unno of Yves Durif Salon, “there’s a very light blonde tone for everyone. It will just take tweaking with the toning.”

If you do decide to make the platinum leap, it’s important to pay attention to the clothes you wear. According to Unno, Smith is “wearing tones that accent the platinum. He’s always in pale blues, heather greys, steel greys…the cooler, ashier tones are going to make it really work…” Of course, having his crystal blue eyes helps, too.
