You wake up, look at yourself in the mirror, and there it is – weird creases, funky texture, and heck, maybe even a classic cowlick nestled comfortably into the collision that is your hair. We’ve all been there – bad hair day and almost no time before we have to head out the door.
Whether you’re currently being afflicted as you read this or are searching for tools to prevent bedhead before it rears its ugly head again, we’re here to show you how conquer this dreaded annoyance once and for all.
Read on for everything you need to know about bedhead eradication.
To fix bedhead:
What’s the quick fix when the damage has already been done?
Re-wet the funky sections to break up the chemical bonds holding them in place. Then, using a round brush as a guide, blow-dry your hair in the direction you want it to go. We suggest having a spray bottle around for easy re-wetting.
Hold your hair in place (while adding a bit of “put-together” shine) with a light styling cream, like Virile Cream Pomade. Work a dime-sized amount through your hair and style however you desire.
For any particularly stubborn hairs that still want to stay up, use a strong hold styling clay, like Dapper Dan Matt Clay, to smooth those areas down.
If you have naturally thick, coarse, or wavy hair and you know that something’s bound to go rogue again in a few hours, finish with a light mist of hairspray. Crowne & Combs The Finisher Hair Spray is designed for all-day hold, and comes handily equipped with UV protectant to keep your hair healthy as well as stylish.

To prevent bedhead:
Take a shower in the morning
This is easily the most efficient fix. Washing your hair will remove any kinks and extra styling products that have built up.
If you just don’t have the time to take a shower in the morning, be sure not to go to sleep the night before with your hair wet or damp, since hair is weakest when wet, making it liable to get dented.
Comb your hair before you go to sleep
Do this with a natural horn comb if possible – horn combs eliminate static while distributing natural oils from your scalp to your hair follicles, so your hair stays hydrated and frizz-free. We recommend Dr Dittmar Pocket Comb in Buffalo Horn, which is small enough to take with you on the go.
Using a natural horn comb will also break up hair products you’ve used during the day, so they don’t build up on your hair.
This tip works especially well for medium-to-long hair.
Extra points: Buy a humidifier
Having a cold shouldn’t be the only time you turn on a humidifier. Often, it’s easier to prevent bedhead than to fix it, and a humidifier is truly a champion of prevention. A humidifier keeps hair (and skin) moisturized, keeping stray hairs at bay and improving shine. Run your humidifier throughout the year, especially during winter (when the heater dries out your hair) and summer (when the AC dries out your hair).
